of Suez Canal University (SCU)

Mission of SCU
“To provide our students with the opportunities to learn the competitive competencies required for employment and entrepreneurship in the globalization era with respect to our community needs and developing cultural identity”.

Objectives of SCU:

  • Prepare high caliber professionals at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in a variety of specializations in the light of the challenges and opportunities of the globalization era.
  • Participate in the improvement of the environment and community, through developing and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of manpower and entrepreneurs competencies.
  • Promote scientific research to enhance economical, social and
    cultural development, while maintaining environmental integrity.
  • Make the best use of the advancements in information, communication and education technology in enhancing our educational process.

 

History:
The origin of Suez Canal University (SCU) goes back to 1976, when the regions of Suez Canal and Sinai were seeking to meet the needs of the community and the aspirations of their citizens for education development, especially after long years of sacrifices and war. Since its foundation, it has grown and is now considered one of the largest and certainly one of the most popular of the new universities.

The dedication of SCU to the needs of the community has been manifested throughout its history and will definitely continue with more strength in the future. For that cause the university has established a number of facilities that include:

  • Environmental research station at South Sinai (St. Katherine)
  • Faculty of environmental agriculture at North Sinai (Al Ariesh)
  • Marine science station at South Sinai (Sharm El Sheikh)

In the same time, with the partnership of a number of international and national bodies, such as UNDP, SCU has been involved in a number of field and research activities in Sinai. The activities include: Bedouins settlement project, water management in North Sinai, risk assessment of water – born disease in Sinai, survey of rodents in Sinai, and National Planning Strategy for Canal and Sinai Governorates.

To support the university in its drive for modernization in the globalization era, SCU has recently established a “University Education Development Center (UEDC)”. The center is very well recognized for its unique comprehensive organizational structure. It includes organizational units such as: Total Quality and Accreditation, E-Learning and information Resources, HR Training and Development, Institutional Development, and Project Management Unit (PMU). For the strategic importance of the center, it reports directly to the president of the university, who is in the same time the chairman of the board of directors.

SCU was inaugurated with only five faculties. It is now fortunate to encompass twenty-two faculties distributed in four governorates, in addition to units of special type and two specialized research centers in the cities of Sharm El Sheikh and Saint Catherine in South Sinai.

 

The Faculties are distributed as follows:

  • Ismailia Campus:
    Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, Faculty of Computers and Informatics.
  • Port-Said Campus:
    Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Nursery, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Specific-Purpose Education and Faculty of Physical Education.
  • Suez Campus:
    Faculty of Petroleum Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Industrial Education and Faculty of Commerce.
  • North Sinai (Al-Ariesh) Campus:
    Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Science.

Some More Information about SCU:
SCU has the total no. of approximately 1500 working teaching staff, about 1500 support staff, 6500 administrative employees and workers and approximately 51000 students, according to the latest survey for the academic year 2003.

The University has also paid special attention to the needs of the students. Services such as specialized libraries, flexible accesses to professors and other services that provide excellent support for Academic work.

In addition to that, there are many opportunities for the student to enjoy the sporting and social aspects of the university life.
